New Steel Structure Factory Project in Gongyi, China: How a Project Begins

On 28 September 2026, construction began on a new steel structure factory project in Gongyi, Henan Province. The building is for Henan Runbo New Materials and will be used for alloy aluminium ingot production, metal scrap processing and new material storage — improving the client's raw material and finished goods logistics, and supporting the local recycled non-ferrous metals industry.

By the time the site team arrived that morning, excavators were already moving earth. But before the machines took over, the project began the way construction projects in China traditionally do.

How a Project Begins: The Groundbreaking Tradition

The first day of a project is marked by a groundbreaking ceremony. An auspicious date is chosen for the work to start, offerings are made, and those involved ask for a safe build, good weather and steady progress. It is a way of acknowledging that a building depends on more than equipment and schedules — and of starting the project with everyone's attention on it.

On this project, our client, the project manager and the site team gathered on site for the ceremony. One detail says a lot about how the day works in practice: among the people standing there, one was holding a set of engineering drawings. The ceremony sets the intention; the drawings, and the standards behind them, are what carry the project through to completion.

We wish the client and everyone who will work on this building a safe, smooth construction — delivered on schedule, to standard, and ready for many years of service.

How the Building Will Go Up

The work now follows a sequence we run on every project:

  • Site levelling and earthworks — the platform is cut and filled to design levels and access routes are prepared.
  • Foundations and anchor bolts — column grid is set out, footings are excavated and cast, and anchor bolt positions are verified before concrete is poured.
  • Fabrication in parallel — while foundations are built on site, the steel frame is cut, welded and trial-assembled in our factory.
  • Erection, envelope and handover — columns, rafters and crane girders are bolted into place, followed by purlins, roof and wall panels, ventilation, alignment checks and delivery.

Because fabrication and site work run at the same time, a steel structure building is completed in a fraction of the time a cast-in-place structure requires.

Why Clients Choose Weilan

This project draws on 25 years in the steel structure industry. Our factory covers 26,650 square metres with nine production lines, so several projects can be in production, shipment and installation at the same time. Thirty-two domestic and international engineers produce a design within three working days, and 450 installers can carry out erection on site anywhere in the world.

We have delivered more than 400,000 square metres of building area and over 6,590 customised engineering solutions. Structural design follows AISC/ASTM, EN or AS/NZS standards as agreed for each project and uses your local wind and seismic data. Materials are CE-certified, with ISO and SGS certification and third-party inspection reports available. Standard factory buildings are produced in 15 to 25 days, and every completed building carries one year of free maintenance with 24/7 engineer support.

Completed Weilan steel structure projects are in service across Africa, Europe and the Middle East — in Somalia, Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire, Congo and Angola; in Romania, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Netherlands and Italy; and in the United Arab Emirates.
