Weilan Breaks Ground on the Zhengzhou Yuda Non-Ferrous Metals Workshop Project

On 29 September 2026, construction began on a new steel structure workshop for Zhengzhou Yuda Non-Ferrous Metals, part of a precious metals extraction and recovery project in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. The workshop will support the client's processing and material handling operations on site.

It was our second groundbreaking in as many days. On 28 September, earthworks had already started on a factory building for Henan Runbo New Materials in Gongyi. Two projects, two cities, one day apart — a pace our factory and site teams are set up to carry.

How a Groundbreaking Ceremony Works

Chinese construction projects traditionally open with a ceremony, and it follows a sequence that everyone on site recognises.

An auspicious date is chosen for construction to begin, so the start falls on a favourable day rather than simply the next available one.

Incense and offerings are set out. On this project, a red-draped table was prepared with fruit and cakes, red candles were lit, and the client's representatives and our project team offered incense — a request for safety, good weather and steady progress through the build.

The first shovels of soil are turned. Shovels are tied with red ribbon, and the client, our project team and the site crew break ground together. The red ribbon is a mark of good fortune — and the shared shovel is a reminder that the building is a joint effort from day one.

The work is formally announced. A red banner with the project name is hung at the site entrance — in this case, marking the start of the Zhengzhou Yuda Non-Ferrous Metals precious metals extraction and recovery project.

Client and contractor mark the commitment. The client and our project team shook hands on site, then gathered with the full team for a photograph — the same picture that will sit alongside the handover photos when the building is complete.

None of this replaces engineering. The ceremony sets the intention for the project; the drawings, the standards and the schedule are what carry it through. We wish the client and everyone who will work on this building a safe, smooth construction — delivered on schedule, to standard, and ready for many years of service.

Why Clients Choose Weilan

This project draws upon Weilan Steel Structure's 25 years of experience in the steel structure industry. Our factory covers 26,650 square metres with nine production lines, so several projects can be in production, shipment and installation at the same time — which is how two groundbreakings can happen a day apart. Thirty-two domestic and international engineers produce a design within three working days, and 450 installers can carry out erection on site anywhere in the world.

We have delivered more than 400,000 square metres of building area and over 6,590 customised engineering solutions. Structural design follows AISC/ASTM, EN or AS/NZS standards as agreed for each project and uses your local wind and seismic data. Materials are CE-certified, with ISO and SGS certification and third-party inspection reports available. Standard buildings are produced in 15 to 25 days, and every completed building carries one year of free maintenance with 24/7 engineer support.

Completed Weilan steel structure projects are in service across Africa, Europe and the Middle East — in Somalia, Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire, Congo and Angola; in Romania, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Netherlands and Italy; and in the United Arab Emirates.
